In 2006, the Pleasanton Partnerships in Education Foundation celebrated its 20th year in support of the Pleasanton Unified School District. During this time PPIE has collaborated with the school district and local businesses to provide programs that have helped to further enrich Pleasanton’s outstanding schools.
These include Student and Education Grants, Career Day, Salute to Partnerships Luncheon and the PPIE Parent Ambassadors. PPIE is working closely with PUSD to develop new programs that will meet the ever-changing needs of students and educators in the 21st century.
GRANTS
Over the past 18 years, PPIE has funded over $500,000 in Student and Education Grants!
• STUDENT GRANTS – Student or student groups in the Pleasanton Unified School District, grades K-12, ROP, Horizon, Special Education, PUSD
co-curricular (band, choir, leadership, etc.), and extra curricular activities (athletics, debate, student clubs, etc.) may apply for a grant once a year.
Grants may be used to fund an individual student or student group activity or a project that promotes a positive learning experience inside or outside the classroom. A teacher sponsor, to offer guidance as needed through the completion of the project, and a school principal’s approval, are also required.
To better support student interest, two grant cycles are offered; cycle one in the fall semester and cycle two in the spring semester. Grant requests are accepted in amounts up to $500.
Student grant applications are available now and may be used for either grant cycle. Application deadlines are due on October 16, 2007 (Cycle 1) and March 18, 2008 (Cycle 2). (Click here for a grant application.)
• EDUCATION GRANTS - Teachers and employees of the PUSD may submit a grant application once a year. Projects should be student focused, promote creativity and innovative thinking, and offer expanded learning opportunities for students. Grant requests are accepted in amounts up to $2,500. Applications are due April 15, 2008. (Click here for a grant application.)
CAREER DAY
The PPIE Foundation hosts an annual Career Day for middle school students in the Pleasanton Unified School District. Guest speakers share relevant and up-to-date information on future career options with students and foster important partnerships with the education community. Volunteers can make a positive difference in a child’s life, and can help shape our future leaders.
Event times are approximately 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Speaker presentations are given during the first four morning class periods. Volunteers are assigned a specific classroom and a teacher is present at all times.
Dates for the 2008 Career Day are:
Pleasanton Middle School Tuesday, February 5, 2008
Harvest Park Middle School Tuesday, February 26, 2008
Hart Middle School Tuesday, March 11, 2008
If you love your career, and would like to share your career experiences with middle school students then please download the Career Day form and fax it to the PPIE Foundation at (925) 846-5641 or e-mail complete information to mail@ppie.org.
SALUTE TO PARTNERSHIPS LUNCHEON
SAVE THE DATE! Pleasanton Partnerships In Education (PPIE) Foundation will be hosting their 21st Annual “Salute To Partnerships” Luncheon on Wednesday, April 9th 2008 from 11:15 AM to 1:30 PM at Castlewood Country Club. The luncheon is PPIE’s annual tribute to our generous benefactors and a salute to the partnership of our community members who work together to enhance our students’ education through the PPIE foundation and its programs.
PPIE PARENT AMBASSADORS
Parent Ambassador’s are the main communication link between PPIE and the school site that they represent. It is their job to inform parents, teachers, and students about PPIE programs and events throughout the school year. This is accomplished by reporting PPIE news at parent club meetings, in school newsletters, and posting marketing materials at the school site. In addition, they help recruit volunteers and sell tickets to “Bon Appetit”, PPIE’s annual culinary fundraiser in the fall; promote the student and teacher grant programs; attend and sell luncheon and drawing tickets to the “Salute to Partnerships” recognition luncheon in the spring.
